Finally Back Online

Friday, October 19, 2007

Sheesh. It’s been a while. October has officially become a busy month. With Amelia’s first birthday and trips to FL to have cake and presents with the grandparents and 2 weeks worth of sickness in our house and now preparing for Halloween, it’s been so busy. 2 weeks ago, Amelia came down with a cold or something and spiked fevers up to 103. An ear infection that had her screaming 3 nights straight from medication. Me developing the flu, I guess and being bed-ridden for 3-4 days. Then to find out it’s a massive sinus infection. So now I’m doped up on meds as well. Amelia had her one-year checkup and I baked cupcakes for her class at daycare. Plus we’re trying to figure out what to do for Halloween. It’s been a few busy weeks since I last posted.

And sadly enough, because of all the stuff going on, I’ve missed 2 SNB nights and have hardly worked on anything knitting/crochet related. It’s still warm here, so now that I’m working on the edge of my sister’s afghan the whole thing has to sit in my lap. Not fun to have a thick warm blanket on your lap when it’s sweltering hot. Plus I’ve messed up somehow and my ripple isn’t going the way it should. I need to take some time to recheck stitch count and pattern repeats to see where I went wrong and fix it. Then there’s a section hanging off the end of the border that I have no idea how it fits into the whole thing. It will be interesting to see where it goes, but I’m trying to take it one row at a time. With this yarn it’s so hard to see the stitches, much less in a ripple. ugh! I will be so glad to be done with this project so I can finally be done with Lion Brand Homespun for good.

As you can see, I finally also got my blog working again. So many errors and attempted fixes and it was all due to one plugin causing me so much grief. So I disabled that plugin and all is well.

So start commenting! I have none!

Waves

Thursday, October 4, 2007

There haven’t been many posts from me in a while. I’ve been crocheting even though there isn’t really anything new to report. I’ve pieced together the rectangles for my sister’s afghan and I’ve started on the wavy border. It looks really neat so far, but in the past week, we’ve all fallen ill. Guess the flu is going around and we all caught it. I’m still feeling sort of crappy, so I haven’t really worked on anything this week.

We’re going to FL this weekend for Amelia’s 1st birthday party, so I’ll be too busy anyway. Hopefully when I get back, I’ll be feeling more myself and things will get back to normal. Then I can really get working on the border and have something to show. Till then, you’ll just have to wait.

Thuja - Done!

Friday, September 14, 2007

Wednesday night, I finished dad’s socks. They are done. 100%, ends weaved in and all. And surprisingly they appear to the same length. What a relief! I was a tad worried about it, but I counted and re-counted the number of stitches from sock #1 and counted and re-counted the number of stitches on sock #2 so they would be the same. I tried to remember how I did the toe on sock #1, and made sure I did it the same on sock #2.

They look really good. I’ll try to get a picture up tonight. The folks will be in Atlanta next weekend helping my sis move, so if I have a chance to get up there, I’ll present him with the finished socks.

In other news, if you haven’t been reading my regular blog, my baby girl is walking! She’s been taking one or two steps here and there but would always fall over. Tuesday night was the official “first steps” moment. She walked all the way across the dining room and I just sat there watching her with tears in my eyes. I call mom right away to share the good news about her granddaughter. Of course, now the grandparents are itching to see her again, so they can see her walk.

Slight Changes / Slight Knitting

Monday, August 13, 2007

If you’ve been here recently, you’ll notice I changed the layout. I wanted something simple, so I found a decent Wordpress theme that I liked and am now using it. It’s been tweaked every so slightly. I customized the header, of course, and changed the wording in a a few places. This was so much easier than trying to create my own theme and plug it into WP. Because I already had a two column layout, it was easy as pie to tweak my code to fit into the theme. Since this is a knitting blog, it only made sense that I had a “blog” theme. And I’m pretty happy with this one. I may at some point change the colors and if I’m feeling adventurous, add some scripting so that you can choose which color you like better. But I’m not sure if I’ll go that far.

In knitting news, I’ve made it to the gusset on sock on of dad’s thujas. I think the 3rd time is the charm on these. The fabric feels much stretchier but also like it will fit snuggly on the foot. I’ve finally (after many start overs) have made it past the first square of sis’ afghan. I’ve got 2 squares done; 10 more to go. But these are going to be better than the last “squared” afghan I made. These are the same # of rows and the same # of stitches across. *And* these will be pieced together the same way, so when I sew seams, I’m sewing rows to rows and stitches to stitches, so I think it will be much easier. You learn from your mistakes and this time around I have to say, I’m doing much better.

But I’m so amazed that I’ve started these two projects so many times over. I’ve never done that with a project to get it right. I guess I’m actually learning a thing or two in my knitting and “getting” gauge is something I’ve been trying to finally get right. Let’s hope this trend continues when I start working on something that really needs accurate gauge, like a sweater.

Knitting on Hold

Monday, July 30, 2007

I think my knitting might be on hold for a few days. I just received a copy of Harry Potter (the final year) from a co-worker who is letting me borrow it. woohoo! So I’ll be busy reading for a while. :)
