A Look at Chamomile

Wednesday, November 30, 2005

I’ve been mulling over in my head the idea of getting back to Chamomile. I’ve just about finished the legwarmers. I’ve got about 5-6 inches left to knit, then I have to weave in ends. All I have left on the baby blanket is to weave in ends. So if I could get those out of the way this weekend (in addition to working on my quilt piece for Maggie), then maybe I’ll tackle Chamomile. I’m pretty convinced I’m going to start over on the front and once I get to the stockinette (after about 10 rows of ribbing), I’m going to recheck my gauge. I really think my knitting has come a long ways since I began and I realized a while back that my front piece was much larger than than the pattern says it should be. When I began Chamomile, I was using US 9/10 because I knit tight. I’ve gotten a little better and more comfortable with the needles, so I think I will have to go back down to the size the pattern actually calls for - US7/8. Yep, I had to go up two sizes. So I think the best course of action is to rip the front and start over making sure I’m using the correct needles for gauge. Or heck. I might skip it a little while longer and get that darn sweater of my mom’s finished. I’ve not had too much fun with cables for some reason. Maybe it’s just this sweater…but it seems wrong to me that the pattern calls for identical front and back…which means a cable going down the middle of the back panel. Blah! Well, maybe it won’t looks so bad once it’s done…but I really think it’s just going to look like it’s being worn backwards. Eik!

Blanche Progress

Here is my progress so far on Blanche, mom’s sweater. I think it’s coming out great for my first cable project. And I’m really enjoying it.

The Yellow Shell

Monday, April 18, 2005

I’ve begun the Yellow Shell (mom’s sweater). I’m about 6 inches (almost 3 cable repeats) into the front piece. I just hope I have enough yarn for the whole thing. I’m moving along at a good pace and I like how it’s coming out…not bad for my first try at cables. It’s turning out pretty neat. I’m enjoying this pattern as it is simple, and I like watching the cable center form as I work. If I can keep working on it in the pace I’m going, it should be done fairly quickly. Then I can ship it to Mom in time for her birthday on June 19. If I get a chance, I’ll post a pic of my progress tonight.

On to Something New

Monday, April 11, 2005

So I finished the last square for my crochet afghan. Now the fun part begins - putting it together. So not looking forward to it. Started on mom’s sweater…did the swatch and need to go down a needle size, which is a shocker because I’ve always had to go up before. But I’m casting on for the front. I just hope my cable turns out okay. I did one in the swatch, but I’m just not sure about it. And since I did the swatch, I’m praying I have enough yarn for the project. I got what the pattern calls for, so I should be okay as long as my gauge is right…which should be now that I went down a size. I’ll post pics once I’ve got some progress to show.

The Last Square/Blanche

Friday, April 8, 2005

I’m down to the last crocheted square for the homespun crochet afghan. I can’t wait to get it done, hopefully tonight, then maybe this weekend or next week I can start putting it together. This afghan has taken forever and I look forward to seeing the FO. Also, I plan to go the AC Moore tonight and get the needles I need for mom’s cable sweater (Blanche). Fortunately it’s a simple shell and the front and back are the same, but it will be my first project with cables. I’m excited to be starting it and want to get it done and to mom before summer is over so she has time to wear it. I mentioned that it is the same front and back and I’m not sure I like that. I love the cable design on the front, but I’m not sure I want that design on the back…I was expecting it to be plain stockinette for the back. Can anyone help me figure out how to alter it so that I can make the back stockinette instead of the cable pattern. The pattern is here: http://www.berroco.com/190/190_blanche.html.
