Knitting Time

Sunday, August 12, 2007

Yesterday morning, the baby took a 3 hour nap and I had some good uninterrupted knitting time. It was great!

Crochet Gauge Headache

Thursday, August 9, 2007

I’m having so much trouble getting gauge on my sister’s afghan. The pattern suggests hook size K. When I swatch for gauge, I’m not getting enough stitches or rows. I tried using an L hook and it seemed like I had too many stitches per inch, so I went back to the K. But last night I got fed up with it and tried again with L and it seems now that I short with L also. Agh! I can’t figure out what size hook to use. Either way, I don’t have nearly enough rows per inch and my stitches per inch is slightly short too.

I need to go to Michael’s at lunch anyway, so I’m going to look for an M and maybe try it. If that doesn’t work, I may have to just go with the L and make a conscious effort to make looser stitches. Last night I was making an effort to tighten my stitches because I thought I was too loose with the L hook, but maybe I just need to loosen up a bit.

Anyway, this will be the 4th or 5th attempt at working the *1st* square! One of these days I’ll get it right and finally be able to move on.

Sisterly Knitting

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

This weekend I taught my sister how to knit. She has begun two small beginner projects (a tank and a little handbag) as a result and is completely addicted. Woohoo!!

We visited two knit shops in Atlanta and had a blast. I bought some Rowan Linen Drape on sale for almost 1/2 off. Enough to make a sleeveless or short sleeve tank and best of all it’s white so it will match with anything. I also got a skein of Jitterbug, a few balls of Kureyon to make another Booga Bag and I got some really gorgeous sox stix in rosewood. Was going to do magic loop for my Jaywalkers, but I might have to use my pretty stix instead. :)

The two shops we visited were so different. One had a lot of novelty yarns and Berroco but also a few good classics like Debbie Bliss and some Rowan. The other one had no novelty yarn (which was great) and had yarns that aren’t as easy to find like Claudia Handpainted, Malabrigo, Blue Sky Alpaca and Artyarns. They also had a lot of Addi’s in stock and I got an Addi lace (47″) to make dad’s socks on magic loop. I really enjoyed both stores. The owners were really friendly and helpful and I’ll definitely be going back next time I’m up visiting my sis.

New Books

Friday, August 3, 2007

I ordered two books a while ago (200 Ripple Stitches and 200 Crochet Blocks) that were supposed to arrive today. Dumb me had them shipped to work instead of home. So, since I’m leaving early today to head out to Atlanta I’ll miss the delivery guy. If I’d had them shipped to the house, they would have arrived in time so I could have taken them with me.  Instead, now they will sit at the office all weekend and I won’t be able to get them til Monday. Darn!
