Amelia’s Afghan

I’m sure I’ve previously mentioned that I’m knitting an afghan for my daughter from the companion pattern book to “The Shop on Blossom Street”. Well, it’s my first pattern with lace…meaning lots of ssk, psso, and yo. This particular pattern has 4 lace sections across and they are identical. So I knit to marker, work lace pattern, knit to marker, repeat.

Last night I decided to work on it some while watching the Food Network awards. :) I got all the way across my row, worked the next row, then got half way across again and realized something wasn’t right. Once I work the lace, I have 17 stitches on the needle. Somehow I messed up and had less stitches than I should making it impossible to proceed. That’s what I get for not paying attention to what I was doing when I began my lace work. I was doing the bitchin’ part of my stitch n’ bitch. LOL! So I ended up having to frog about 4 rows back to the last row before my lace pattern begins. What a pain! This is the first time I’ve ever frogged multiple stitches/rows at one time. I usually go back one stitch at a time, so I don’t have to worry about dropped stitches, but that would have sucked! So I used some scrap yarn and a yarn needle and just weaved the scrap into the stitches all the way across. Then I realized, of course, that all my stitches where twisted. Now, I could have stitched them up and straightened them as I went, but for a novice (which I still consider myself, even after 3 years of so-called knitting) that would have been too difficult while also trying to work the lace. So I went across and straighten my stitches. Which meant weaving (1st pass), putting back on needles (2nd pass), straightening stitches (3rd and 4th pass), then trying again. In the end I did a lot of work on my afghan last night, but didn’t really get any farther along. LOL! But even with all that hassle, I’m enjoying the process. The lace pattern really keeps things changing, so it doesn’t get so boring doing a million rows of st st. Maybe that’s why I enjoy lace crochet so much…the pattern constantly changes.

Still Knitting…

…just not talking about it. I started an afghan for Amelia that I’ve barely worked on. Then this past week found out one of her daycare teachers is leaving at the end of this week. So I started a dishcloth for her. I hope to finish it very soon as her last day is this Friday. I swear I really need to just start knitting these things like mad and have a store of them at home in case I need a quick gift for something. My knitting meetup is tomorrow night so I’m hoping to use that time to finish or at least make some major progress on the dishcloth. I just don’t really have much time lately to work on anything. It took me 2 days to get one scrapbook page done this weekend! Agh!

No time for anything but Amelia. I guess that’s what happens when you have an infant at home. But it would be nice if the husband would put forth a little more effort on the baby care, so I could relax a little more. This weekend was an exception though because he was sick. I was even a little sick too with the same thing. But sadly they can go lay down and play dead to the world, while us moms have to keep going even if we are in danger of collapsing flat on our faces. So that’s the life of this new mom. no time for knitting, except the occassional evening when not half asleep by 8pm, when I put my daughter to bed. Eventually I’ll finish a project and have something to show, but don’t count on it anytime soon. With the exception of the dishcloth that must be done by Friday morning. Aaaagggghhh!
