Gauge Changed
5 April 2004 – 5:49 pmI think my gauge has changed since I started my homespun crochet afghan. When I started working on it, I was making the stitches loose, because I wasn’t familiar with Homespun and it kept splitting and pulling. I’ve now made about 15 squares and I’m getting used to the nuances of the yarn. Without realizing it my stitches are tighter. Where I should be getting 8 inch wide blocks, they are coming out 7-7.5 inches wide. Should I change hook sizes or add the # of stitches I need to get the right size? I made one square the right size by adding the needed stitches, but I’m not sure if this would make a difference in the end when I piece all the squares together. I’m wondering if I just add stitches if those sections it will end up too thick when pieced together? So maybe I should do one square in a larger hook and see how it looks. Any suggestions on what I should do? I’m hoping that my smaller squares will size up when I block them. But I don’t want all my squares to be too small. I’d like to get back on track.
