Spring Fling Begins

Monday, March 15, 2004

I didn’t do too much knitting this weekend. We painted our front entrance. More redecorating. But I did manage to swatch for spring fling and work out the pattern. I attempted cast on three times last night and it just wasn’t right. Either too much yarn or too little or the other cast on just didn’t look right. So I think I got it this time. I started again and will hopefully get a good bit done today. I look forward to seeing my tank become a tank.

Winder

Friday, March 12, 2004

Oh, I really need a yarn winder. I’ve been having to hand wind the yarn I’m using for spring fling and it’s such a pain. My first try was a disaster. Now it’s better but a winder would be easier than trying to hold it in my hand. Of course, the swift would also come in handy, but I can live with putting it on the back of a chair for now. So far all I’ve worked with are center pull skeins, so I haven’t really had to worry about winding, but maybe one of these days I’ll have to splurge and get one. :)

Afghan Beginnings

Crochet Afghan

Here’s the first square of a crochet afghan I’ve started. It requires 35 squares that will be pieced together. I had originally planned on knitting this afghan, but after working with the yarn (Lion Brand Homespun), I feel I can crochet with it much better than I can knit with it. So I am crocheting the afghan. I also decided that the scarf I was knitting with this same yarn will also be crocheted instead of knitted. For me, its just easier. I am liking so far how it’s turning out.

Tri-Colored Yarn

Funcky Square

See what has happened to my yarn? Can you see the stripes? That is the same dye lot (not the cream part). Maybe I got the skeins that were dyed last in that lot. And the brown color was running out so it became a pinkish color. Even within one skein, it is mostly green, somewhere in the middle for a few yards it goes back to how it should be (an even blend of greens and browns) then goes back to mostly green with a pinkish tone. It’s very weird. Maybe that’s what I get for buying a slighty inferior yarn? It’s Lion Brand Homespun. All my skeins are the same dye-lot and the big color difference is also within the same strand of yarn! So even though I made sure I got the same dye lot, it didn’t make any difference in this project. I guess it really wants to be multi-colored.

Legwarmer Unravels

Wednesday, March 10, 2004

When I began to do my decreases on my legwarmer, I realized I had too many stitches. Somehow, somewhere I ended up increasing by three stitches, so I’m ripping to see where the mistake is. And here I was planning to finish the first leg tonight. :( Oh well. Off to figure out where I goofed.

Update: apparently something went wrong about 3 rows into the legwarmer, so I get to rip the entire thing and start over. Hmm, maybe I’ll wait and start this project again after I work on my tank for spring fling.
